COMO Uma Paro is a luxury resort of 29 rooms and 9 private villas, set on a forested hillside overlooking the town of Paro in western Bhutan. Located just 10 minutes from Paro International Airport — the kingdom's only international gateway — it serves as the natural starting point for any Bhutan journey. The property combines traditional Bhutanese artisan craftsmanship with COMO's clean-lined contemporary design, anchored by the COMO Shambhala wellness retreat and the award-winning Bukhari restaurant.
The resort sits within easy reach of Bhutan's most significant cultural landmarks: the Tiger's Nest Monastery (Taktsang), Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum at Ta Dzong, and Kyichu Lhakhang — one of Bhutan's oldest temples, with an orange tree said to bear fruit year-round. Most COMO itineraries use Paro as the primary base, with excursions radiating outward across the valley.
Accommodation
Every room blends the colourful accents of Bhutanese craftsmanship — hand-drawn murals, woven textiles, carved woodwork — with the pared-back contemporary aesthetic COMO is known for.

Self-contained retreats set among the pine forest, each with a private living area, kitchen, and dedicated spa treatment room. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding woodland. Accommodates up to 3 guests.
COMO Villa
300 sqm / 3,229 sqft
The most expansive accommodation at COMO Uma Paro, with panoramic views across the entire valley. Two bedrooms (king and twin), private spa treatment area, and personal butler service. Ideal for families or those seeking the highest level of seclusion.
COMO Shambhala Retreat
"Shambhala" means peace in Sanskrit, and the retreat at COMO Uma Paro is designed around that pursuit. The wellness centre draws on both modern science and ancient Bhutanese healing traditions — including the traditional hot stone bath, where heated river stones crack and release minerals into the water, relieving deep-set tension before a signature COMO Shambhala massage.
Each of the nine private villas has its own dedicated spa treatment suite, allowing guests to receive therapies in complete seclusion. Daily yoga classes run in a studio overlooking the Paro Valley (complimentary, except Sundays), and bespoke wellness programmes — Detox, Revitalize, Himalayan Rejuvenation — can be arranged in advance.

Dining at Bukhari
Named after the traditional Bhutanese wood-burning fireplace that anchors its circular, pavilion-style dining room, Bukhari is COMO Uma Paro's signature restaurant. Much of the produce comes from the resort's own organic kitchen garden, maintained in partnership with local farmers from the Paro Valley — affording a bounty of fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The menu balances Bhutanese flavours with refined international dishes. Seasonal highlights include wild mushrooms, buckwheat, and pumpkin. The COMO Shambhala Kitchen offers nutritionally optimised alternatives for guests following wellness programmes.
Bhutan's royal family are regular guests at Bukhari.
